ABOUT ME

Kali Racquel is a Los Angeles-based writer and actor from St. Louis, MO. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts with a minor in Gender Studies from the University of Pennsylvania where she was a standout Track & Field athlete. After an injury ended her Olympic-development dreams, she ended up working in the non-profit, social services sector for six years where she endeavored to help eradicate the social inequalities faced by black/brown communities. Witnessing the brokenness of public support services or the fact that they don't...support, her creative works both comedically and dramatically explore the various absurdities of society.

Her latest work, PUBLIC SCHOOL is a half-hour, episodic dramedy that uses a dark comedic lens as a way to examine the institutional problems within the American public school system. The project was a winner of the 2021 Yes…And Laughter Lab, a competitive incubation lab and pitch program sponsored by Warner Media, Comedy Central, and NBC which ended with a Los Angeles industry showcase. It was also a semi-finalist of the 2021 Sundance Episodic Lab.

As an actor, she most recently appeared in the 2023 Sundance Film Festival premiering short film HELP ME UNDERSTAND, directed by Aemilia Scott and produced by Paul Feig’s Powderkeg. Her feature film debut was in a co-star role alongside Keith David and writer/director/star Justin Etheredge in the film GOOD. The film premiered at the 2020 Austin Film Festival and is currently streaming.

Additionally, before focusing on the development of her original works, she worked as an assistant to both the VP of Development and SVP of Scripted at Jesse Collins Entertainment where she learned the ins and outs of producing and how to take a project from idea to air. She eventually worked her way up to segment producing on specials such as the BET Hip Hop Awards, Black Girls Rock!, Soul Train Awards, and VH1’s Dear Mama.
